Burgundy

There is no wine region anywhere throughout the world that captures the imagination nor evokes as much passion for its wines as Burgundy.  Quality throughout the region has improved dramatically over the past two decades, and it is indisputably the reference point for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines.

burg-village.jpgThe region is small – a little over 5,000 hectares of vineyards in the main strip (Cote d’Or) – and to many, difficult to understand.  With a complex amalgam of appellations, villages, classifications, vintages, producers and vineyards to contend with, a sound knowledge base – or an exceptional merchant – is imperative in selecting only the best (and best-value) wines.

A diverse range of styles of Burgundy are produced today – both red and white – that merit your attention.  Whatever your preferences: modern or traditional; rich or savoury; powerful or elegant; early-drinking or ageworthy; inexpensive or raid-the-piggy bank; or indeed any combination of these attributes, we not only have the wines for you, but we’ll help you find them.

The very nature of Burgundy - small producers, often little more than farmers, and tiny production - means that many, if not most wines, are only found in minute quantities, and often sell out very quickly.  Hence most wines are only available in very limited quantities.  Should you be seeking a specific wine, or producer, please contact us directly for further information and availability.  Many of the very best Burgundies never make it on to the website for sale, being offered directly to customers who have previously purchased those wines or expressed interest in buying them.  Again, please ensure you're on our mailing list in order to have access to such wines.
