Cobaw Ridge

Established in 1985 Cobaw Ridge winery is really the pursuit of an ideal by passionate, talented husband and wife team Alan and Nelly Cooper.  Today the vineyards are certified organic and biodynamic and winemaking is .  The vineyards sit as the highest on the Great Dividing Range, facing north and at more than 600 meters in a natural ampitheatre.  Numerous varieties have been planted during the past 30 years, including the surprisingly successful Italian variety Lagrein, yet it is Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and the earthy Syrah that have impressed me most.

Blessed with densely-planted old-vine material (as well as new plantings with recent clones waiting to come online) Cobaw Ridge produces wines that are uniformly complex and powerful yet retain excellent finesse and freshness thanks in part to cool-climate viticulture and part to sensitive, minimalist winemaking.
