Dom. de Ferrand

The Domaine de Ferrand is at least 250 years old, and has been making wine continuously throughout that time.  Today it is owned and run by Philippe Bravay, who took over from his father in 1995 and immediately instituted a number of qualitative changes, including domaine bottling.

The domaine encompasses five hectares in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, near Orange, and from low yields around 27 hl/ha produces just a single wine - a blend of approximately 90% Grenache and the balance Mourvedre, Syrah and Cinsault.  It is traditionally styled, powerful and rich, and offers exceptional value for money.

The grapes are destemmed depending on the vintage, fermentations take place in both stainless steel and concrete vats, and no oak is employed during maturation whatsoever - all tannins are derived from grape skins and occasionally stems.  Any wine not considered of sufficient quality is sold off to negociants rather than declassified.

Surrounding the cellars are a further 10 hectares of vines, classified as Cotes du Rhone (as they lie just outside the Chateauneuf-du-Pape AOC, literally separated by a narrow track).  Two further wines are produced from these vines.
