don-jj-confuron.jpgThis Domaine is very much a product of inheritance and marriage, with current proprietors Alain and Sophie Meunier farming eight hectares of vines from the ancient Charles Noellat and Bouchard-Pagani estates.  Biodynamcis have been utilised from more than 20 years, most fruit is entirely destemmed and cold pre-ferment macerations employed to gently extract colour and flavour.  Around 80% new oak is used for the superbly sited premiers and grands crus prior to bottling around 18 months (without fining or filtration).

Many of the plots - specifically Nuits 1er 'Boudots', Vosne 1er 'Beaumonts', and the grands crus Clos Vougeot and Romanee St.-Vivant - were effectively shared from the old Charles Noellat estate when it was sold to Madame Bize-Leroy in the 1980s, as Sophie was able to convince Leroy to allow her to take her share of inheritance as plots of vines.  As such, they are neighbours in these vineyards.jj-conf-vines.jpg

The wines are impressive, very much so.  They have wonderful purity of fruit and minerality, yet are not austere nor overly tannic.  Alain seeks balance and a sense of terroir in his wines, letting the vineyard speak rather than the hand of the winemaker.  They have a proven ability to age superbly, and are certainly wines of a domaine at the top of its game at present.
