Domaine Michelot

Producing wine from 11 hectares of vines (both owned and leased) Domaine Michelot is one of the grandest of domaines in Meursault, having produced benchmark wines that epitomised both white Burgundy and great Meursault for decades.  The estate is smaller than it once was, courtesy of French inheritence laws, and is today run by Jean-Francois Mestre and his wife Odile Michelot, yet still retains magnificent holdings throughout Meursault, including the best premiers crus of Perrieres, Genevrieres and Charmes.michelot.jpg

The vineyards are maintained utilising lutte raisonnee techniques, and a relatively small amount of new oak (around 20%) is employed.  The grapes are lightly crushed and settled for around 12 hours before being placed in cask where alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are completed.  The wines remain in barrel for around 12 months before being blended in stainless steel tanks and bottled after a further six months.  Fining and/or light filtration will be undertaken just prior to bottling as required.

The wines of Michelot tend to need a couple of years in bottle before showing their full potential, and will comfortably last a decade or more.

Domaine Michelot is one of the very first Burgundian producers to offer their entire range in Australia bottled under screwcap (from the 2010 vintage).
