Domaine Sainte Croix

A short (20 minute) drive inland from the Mediterranean, nestled between the appellations of Languedoc and Roussillon are 13 hectares of vines in the limestone-rich hills around Corbieres.  It is in this beautiful countryside that you will find Domaine Sainte Croix, an impeccably managed small estate run by husband and wife team Jon and Elizabeth Bowen - who escaped the British climate to pursue their viticultural dream - of numerous small plots and vineyards planted in differing soils and aspects.

The vines are tended organically and carefully, with deep respect for the often ancient vines and in a manner to produce intensely-flavoured grapes.  The overarching aim is to allow the terroir to fully express itself, hence winemaking is considered both traditional and minimalist, with slow, cold ferments utilising natural yeasts and extended ageing, including in barrel, for most cuvees.  Wherever possible, the wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Although this part of France may not attract the same amount of press or publicity, nor recognition, as many of it's neighbours, this area is precisely where to look for exceptional, delicious wines that are afforably priced.
