Epis

epis.jpgEpis, or Domain Epis as it used to be (and still sometimes is) referred to, is the 'day job' of Alec Epis, dual premiership AFL footballer with Essendon, long-time mentor and (formerly) board member of the Essendon Football Club, former butcher, former Pentridge Prison worker, and all-round good bloke.  The Epis vineyard is in Woodend and has 20 year-old Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and Alec also owns the 'Williams' vineyard in Kyneton where he grows Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (from 35 and 10 year-old vines respectively).

The cool site allows Alec to grow beautiful, perfumed, elegant and complex Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays that are surprisingly unknown and overlooked by most consumers, despite the high regard they're held in by myself and critics.  The vines are cropped low - around one-and-a-half tonnes per hectare
