Tasting notes

2009:  A blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon and 37% Merlot.  Very fine aromas, with a hint of exotic smoke along with red fruits and minerals.  On the palate the wine is very precise and clean, with pure fruits, fine tannin and a lovely freshness.  No hint whatsoever of any over-ripeness, this is a supremely elegant wine.  Gentle and very fine yet still fresh and persistent on the finish.  Lovely.  93-94 points (April 2010).


2007:  A blend of 73.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 26.5% Merlot, aged in 50% new oak.  Surprisingly serious wine, in a more complex and powerful style than the Carruades 2007.  Lovely dark fruits, mocha and iron, quite powerful-yet-refined tannins, with a lovely underlying richness to the fruit.  Complex, lengthy finish and very delicious already, yet make no mistake, this is quite a serious, age-worthy style.  92-94 points, drink 2014-2025 (April 2008).


2004:  Quite fine aromas of plum and tobacco, with a touch of mineral.  On the palate the wine is medium-bodied, ripe yet with somewhat leafy flavours, some cassis and cigar-box, and a lovely freshness.  Good complexity and length, this is an appealing wine that should drink well in the medium-term.  88 points, drink 2009-2017 (June 2008).


2000:  Cedar, graphite and plum flavours, fine tannins, good structure, really lovely style.  Good complexity and length.  Should improve further.  88 points (October 2002).


1997:  A nice, interesting Pauillac that offers no great intensity, surprises or complexity, but remains true to its style and regional typicity nonetheless.  Drink now and over the next five years.  82 points (April 2002).


1982:  Stunning wine aromatically with intense cedar, back berry fruit and slightly mocha oak.  On the palate the wine is beginning to develop wonderful complexity with pure fruit characters coming to the fore.  Excellent concentration.  Just starting to peak, should last another 10-15 years.  93 points (June 2003).
