Château HAUT-BATAILLEY

Tasting notes

2009:  A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc.  Fine and floral aromas of juicy red berries and a hint of musk.  On the palate there is good weight of sweet, elegant fruit, perfectly balanced by fresh acidity and fine, ripe tannins.  Lovely complexity and finesse to the wine.  Very impressive.  92-94 points, drink 2013-2024.  April 2010.

2007:  A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, from yields of 41 hl/ha.  Pretty, lifted aromas of musk, florals and red berries, following through to a lovely, soft, sweet palate, framed by very fine, polished tannins.  A lovely creamy texture, light spice and delicious mouthfeel, with fine tannins and fresh acidity.  A very attractive, drinking style.  92-94 points, drink 2010-2020.  April 2008.

1997:  A little thin and uninspiring, somewhat typical of this vintage amongst lesser classified growths in Pauillac.  In its defence, it has some nice, sweet but simple fruit flavours, and is

certainly drinkable.  It’s just not a particularly memorable drink.  80 points, drink now.  May 2003.

1995:  Soft and attractive aromas of musk, blackcurrant, plum and minerals.  Similarly soft on the palate, yet the wine is very delicious and drinkable, with lovely soft, fine tannins, good fruit weight and a long finish.  Suffers a little with lack of complexity, but whilst not profound, it’s certainly enjoyable.  89 points, drink now-2010.  September 2002.
