Château HAUT-MARBUZET

Tasting notes

2009:  Beautiful ripe, sweet, lifted aromas of minerals, cherry and plum.  On the palate the wine is very clean and pure, with good density and surprising finesse.  There is a little exotic character, lovely fresh acidity and quite complex, layered fruit already.  The finish is long and spicy, with a wonderful feeling of freshness.  A lovely style of harmony.  92-94 points, drink 2015-2030.  (April 2010).

2008:  Somewhat leafy and herbaceous aromas showing a degree of oak at the moment (it will be bottled next week).  Very classical on the palate, with crisp, clean fruit in a reserved, restrained manner.  There is some green olive and plum character, good complexity, and

very enjoyable in style.  Reminiscent of 2006 Margaret River Cabernets, but less leafy.  88-90 points, drink 2011-2022.  (April 2010).

2007:  An immediately charming, luncheon claret-style of wine, with very fresh, clean fruits, cherry and tobacco flavours, moderate complexity and good length of finish.  There are very fine, chalky tannins and sour cherry flavours on the finish.  A success for the vintage.  90 points, drink now-2020.  (April 2010).

1999:  Slightly exotic, spicy aromas, with cedar, plum, quite fine and drying tannins.  Lovely ripeness, but loads of finesse and elegance.  90 points (October 2004).

1990:  Incredibly powerful, concentrated and exotic aromas.  Hints of mint along with ripe, rich smoky, herbal, oak and fruit flavours.  Very good length and a full, mouth-coating finish.  Drinking well now, but will last another decade.   94 points (June 2003).

1982:  High to mid-shoulder.  Quite aromatically intense, with developed, leathery flavours.  The colour is amazing - but not in a good way - brown, bricky hues.  Dry, quite attractive on the palate, but clearly a poor bottle.   83 points (September 2004).
