Mount Mary

mount-mary.jpgMount Mary is not just one of Australia's iconic producers, it is unquestionably one of our very best.  And it is a personal favourite.  Mount Mary was at the forefront of the development of the mailing list culture amongst Australian winelovers, and to this day, nearly 40 years on, remains one of the finest, most revered wineries.

Established in the 1971 by the late Dr John Middleton, initial plantings were completed in 1972.  John and his wife Marli were somewhat obsessed with premium, elegant French wines, and determined to make elegant, low alcohol wines in Australia from those French varieties.  Today Mount Mary is run by his son David, with grandson Sam in charge of winemaking, with a little over 15 hectares planted to no fewer than 18 varieties.  Four wines are currently produced: a Cabernet Sauvignon-based Bordeaux-style blend named 'Quintet' that remains the winery's flagship; a Pinot Noir; Chardonnay; and an underrated take on Bordeaux blanc, a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Muscadelle named 'Triolet'.

As ever, elegance and refinement are the hallmarks of each of Mount Mary's wines.
