Olivier Bernstein

olivier1.jpgOlivier Bernstein has burst on to the fine Burgundy scene in a big way since the release of his inaugural vintage, 2007.  Having worked the 2002 vintage with the late, legendary Henri Jayer Olivier has created an incredible portfolio of wines using only old vine premiers and grands crus vineyards from exceptional appellations.

The 2007s were 100% destemmed and aged in 100% new oak, whereas the 2008s saw the inclusion of stems in some cuvees and a reduced 80% new oak.  The 2009s have approximately 50% stems or whole bunch, and around 70% new oak.
Most wines are made in tiny quantities - often two or three barrels - and are highly sought-after by top collectors and consumers the world over.  The style is at once powerful, almost exotic, and richly-fruited, yet there is tremendous freshness, minerality and fine tannins that give the wines wonderful balancing structure and vigour.  Bernstein was one of the last to harvest in 2008, yet amongst the first to pick in the ripe 2009 vintage.

These are luxurious wines of extraordinary quality.  It is not immodest for Olivier to already consider himself to have achieved his ambition of having his wines considered amongst Burgundy's greatest - as which he nominates DRC, Leroy, Ponsot and Rousseau.
